Mahindra is preparing the next-generation models of its popular SUV range including Scorpio, Thar, Bolero and the XUV500. The new models will be based on new platforms and will be loaded with new and powerful engines. In this article we are talking about the XUV500, which is set to receive a generation change in the next 1 year.
The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which will replace the outgoing 2.2-litre unit. This will be the BSVI compliant engine and is expected to produce around 180bhp of power. The company will tune this engine in different states of power. This powertrain will also power the next-gen Thar and Scorpio in different states of tunes.
The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to make debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The SUV could be launched in the second half of 2020, most probably around August-September.
– Design Inspired by new SsangYong Korando
Mahindra has started using the SsangYong’s partnership quite seriously and the XUV300 is the latest example, which is based on the SsangYong’s X100 platform. It is expected that the next-gen XUV500 could share styling cues from the new-gen SsangYong Korando, which debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Adding to it, Pininfarina, the famous Italian design house will also help Mahindra to design the next-gen XUV500. The SUV will be based on the new moncoque platform, which will be more stronger and stable than the existing model.
– New Petrol Engine
Mahindra has already announced that its all products will be available with petrol engine option. The company is working on a wide range of petrol engines including an all-new 1.5-litre turbocharged and a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The 1.5L unit is most likely to debut in the new Mahindra Marazzo MPV. It is expected that the next-gen XUV500 could feature the 2.0-litre petrol engine, which is likely to produce around 200bhp of power.

Ford and Mahindra have officially announced to co-develop an all-new C-SUV, which will be based on the next-gen XUV500 platform. This model will also source the powertrain options with the XUV500. It is expected to debut in the second half of 2020, while launch could take place in the early 2021.
